S

haron Arathoon (founder of Faith Hope Charity Fund) and her mother Arlene watched a documentary called "Calcutta Christmas". This documentary showed a 'Home for the Aged' in Kolkata where many Anglo-Indians resided.

On seeing the documentary, Sharon and Arlene felt a strong urge to go back to Kolkata and begin a project which could help many of the needy Anglo-Indians.

On their return to Kolkata they discovered that many Anglo-Indians left back in India have lost everything. They desperately needed help, and they felt they had been forgotten by their own Community.

Said Sharon to her mother, "They need our help, we have to pick them up from the depths they have sunk to and give them back the dignity and pride they once had. We who have moved on can, and must, help our less fortunate brothers and sisters. Let us stand united and show them that we do care, and they have not been abandoned."

Once back in Perth the work began to help the needy Anglo-Indians in Kolkata.

The Charity has been operational since 1999.
